Phalaenopsis White Orchid

In the past sprint-summer, our two pots of orchids grew very well. There were so many blossoms that I lost count. But I was able to photograph different shoots that had single, two, three and four blossoms. They are truly beautiful. It’s really joyful to look at them every day.

A Walk in the Woods

Before the year ended, I took a walk on this short trail behind a friend’s house. I like the monochrome side of the nature. Color, sometimes, is just too distractive, like the world we’re living in. Simplicity is better than complexity. One wonders why Chanel has been so successful for almost a century.

Neighborhood Park

On a Saturday afternoon in October, after having late lunch at a get-together party, all friends decided to go out for a walk in the neighborhood park. Half an hour later, it started raining. I was only able to snap a few pictures of the nature.

Everything has at least two sides

‘Tis the season again. These flowers can be spotted everywhere all over the world, especially in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. So it’s not hard to find some in your neighborhood. This morning I got up a bit earlier than usual, rushed out for shooting even before brushing my teeth, ’cause I didn’t want to cause attraction from suspicious minds. Of course, if you do want to photograph on someone’s lawn, you’d better ask for permissions first, so that no one will call the police. I chose to take these pictures in a public sharing, unattended area. No one would ever mind.

Salzburg: City of Mozart

This is the second time we went to Salzburg in 13 months, as mentioned previously. It’s one of the major cities of Austria and I think many people has been there as it’s also a popular place for tourists. It’s not large – size-wise. But it’s surely a beautiful city and we were just awed by the Austrian culture.

The Salzach River runs through the city and divides it by two. The Old Town lies on the west side of the river, where a monastery and bishopric were founded in 700 A.D. The city and the river got their name from early residents who earned their living in the region’s salt mines.

Blossom

Today is probably the only day that doesn’t rain in these two weeks. When we got home after work, we are so excited to see the tulips and narcissus all beautifully unfolded their petals. Here they are. Enjoy.

Our Garden

Living in Canada is not easy. Some people can afford to buy a house but can’t keep up with their mortgage payment. Even if they can, they have to use a large portion of their income to do so. In China, these kind of folks are called “房奴”, meaning “slave to the house”, because that’s what they are “working for”.

Well, me and my wife are “slave to our house” too, but we are different kind of slaves. We bought the house, finished the renovation, and fortunately the monthly mortgage payment is not a big burden. Yet still, we are stranded — by our garden.

Believe me, keeping a garden in both front and back yard nice and tidy and beautifully looking is no small matter and not suitable for faint hearts. Every year, we spent lots of time and efforts in our yards, not just mowing the lawn and spreading glass seeds in sprint and fall, but also planted lots of roses and some trees and other flowers. I’m not saying our garden is the most beautiful one in our neighborhood. It is not at all. But sometimes when people pass by and say, “nice flowers” or the neighbor says to you over the fence, “those are beautiful roses”, that’s all it takes for us to keep on.
